Mended

Destroyed, then repaired by hand and kept. Every tear darned in mismatched thread, patches cut from other dead shirts sewn down under long sunburst rows of stitching. The elk is still there underneath. One of one, because the repairs are.

From The Boxall Archive — thirteen shirts reconstructed from twenty-five years of photographs of the man who wore them. This one belongs to the second layer, where the archive is taken to its end.
